About Us
When Dempsey’s was founded in 1991 by Peter and Bernadette Burrell, it was a new step for a pair of accomplished professionals.
Peter, Dempsey's brewmaster, attended the Siebel Institute of Brewing and worked at Pearl Brewing Co. in San Antonio, Texas, before taking on brewmaster duties at Siebens River North Brewery in Chicago and Squatters Brewing Co. in Salt Lake City.
Bernadette's background as a chef includes stints at renowned restaurants such as Chef Tell's in Philadelphia, Spiaggia in Chicago, and Mustards Grill in Napa Valley.
With
their combined expertise and enthusiasm, Dempsey's quickly won a devoted
following among locals and visitors alike. Bernadette started Red Rooster
Ranch in 1993 so that she could serve the freshest, hand-picked organic
greens and vegetables to her customers. The restaurant expanded in 1994
and added seating on the outdoor patio, giving more diners the opportunity
to enjoy the view of the Petaluma River and the walking bridge which
links the restaurant with downtown.
The restaurant is more than just the Burrells, however. Dempsey’s would
not be Dempsey’s without its remarkable staff, most of whom have been
with the restaurant for many years. Their casual but professional style of
service is a key ingredient in setting the scene, where longtime staff and
regular clientele combine to make everyone feel at home. “They believe
in good food, good beer, and good service — what Dempsey’s is,”
explains Bernadette.
Dempsey’s also plays an important role in the greater Petaluma community
and supports local organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, the Carousel
Fund, the Teaching Garden, Petaluma People Services Center, and COTS.
